Covane Lodge is situated 12kms outside the village of Massingir, which is near the wall of the Massingir Dam, on the southern border of Mozambique’s Parque Nacional do Limpopo. The Massingir Dam, with a 5km wide wall, stretches 20kms into the Elefantes Gorge, and can be explored by boat all the way up to the South African border with the Kruger National Park. Travel up the Gorge for boat-based game watching to see pods of hippo and crocodile as well an extraordinary array of birds
Covane Lodge was designed as a transit lodge for guests travelling between South Africa/Kruger National Park and Mozambique.
Boat-based fishing trips on Massingir Dam: Using your own fishing gear, cast for Tiger fish (catch and release) Bream/Mozambican Tilapia, Silver Karp or Barbel. Fishing licenses are required, and must be bought from the Mozambican Maritime Authority (INAMAR). These licenses can be bought at Covane Lodge. For guests who bring their own boats to Covane Lodge , licenses must be purchased at the INAMAR offices in Massingir. When you contact our offices to book your stay, we will supply all costs and information on this. There is a fishing boat available to guests along with a houseboat for those who wish to stay on the lake. Remember to pack your fishing tackle.
