Barra is in one of the most picturesque areas of Mozambique, with spectacular views of pristine beaches and the crystal clear waters of the Indian ocean.Situated 485km north of Maputo, access by road is a pleasant drive on tarred surfaces which are generally in a good condition and suitable for passage of a normal vehicle.However, the last 15kms leading to the point is 4x4 only.
Barra is a secluded unspoilt beach bordered by the Inhambane estuary on one side and the sea on the other.The warm waters offer safe bathing and smooth and easy boat launching. Fishing grounds and diving reefs are nearby and the largely unexplored reefs offer endless pleasures for skin divers and snorklers.
The nearest is town is Inhambane one of the oldest civilized towns in Mozambique dating back to the 1500's and the Arab traders.The town itself is set on the bay of Inhambane, looking across to Maxixe.Enjoy a drink at the harbor whilst watching the Dhows cruise across the bay.
Resort
White Sands is a new campsite situated about 10km past Barra Lodge.It is at the end of the peninsula, near the opening to the Inhambane Bay.At spring high tide access is only possible along the beach.
Campsites are in demarcated areas and are approximately 10m by 15m each with a mini lapa and braai.Campsites are allocated in advance.
The ablutions are clean and new with both hot and cold water.There are plenty of showers both in and outdoors to accommodate all guests.
Power is supplied by generator which runs from early evening to approximately 11pm.Plug points are available.
There is a 6 sleeper and a 8 seleeper self catering chalets.
There is a restaurant and bar open during peak season.
